Pediatrics Residency

Austin grew up in Riverview, Florida and attended Florida State University, where he earned a B.S. in Exercise Science and a minor in Family and Child Sciences. During his time at FSU, he helped lead Dance Marathon in supporting Children’s Miracle Network and enjoyed being resident bass singer for FSU’s coed a cappella group, All Night Yahtzee. After undergrad, Austin spent several years directing camps, coordinating care, and connecting families with resources while working for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in New Jersey — a community he became passionate about while volunteering for many years with their summer camp program. Eventually, he found his way back to school, earning his master’s degree from the University of South Florida before heading back up the east coast to attend the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

In Maine, Austin found a place where he could grow both as a future physician and advocate. He was the president of Student Doctors for Health Equity, vice president of both the Health Policy Club and Student Government Association, and co-chair of the Maine Medical Association’s Student Section. He founded the Interprofessional Student Group to help increase collaboration and understanding of the roles that healthcare professionals play in creating positive outcomes – a goal he furthered as co-director of Social Determinants of Health Month. He participated in several honors programs, including the Care for the Underserved Pathway, the Reproductive Health Leadership Program, and the Interprofessional Honors Distinction.  

Austin was also a regular in both the Maine State House and Washington D.C., testifying on behalf of various organizations in support of causes crucial to the wellbeing of children including gun safety, transgender and reproductive rights, and rural access to care. He received the Presidential Distinction from the MOA, the W. Hadley Hoyt Award from UNECOM, and the Pamela M.B. Studwell Tobacco Policy Award from the MPHA in recognition of his efforts. During residency, he is excited to remain engaged and continue to grow in the areas of advocacy, health equity, and patient education. 

In his free time – which he hears there is plenty of during residency – Austin enjoys playing guitar, hiking, and watching his premier league team Arsenal almost win the league year after year. He married his incredible partner Morgan in 2023 — and together they love traveling the world, trying new cuisine, and spending time with friends and family.
