Kali Pereira, MD
Biography
Kali (she/her) was born and raised in the greater New Bedford area and is proud of her Portuguese-American roots. As the oldest of five children in a single-parent household, she developed an early appreciation for the importance of family and community, values that continue to shape the way she approaches caring for children and families. She attended Northeastern University, where her love for learning from and caring for diverse communities bloomed through a public health brigade in rural Nicaragua, supporting medical care for asylum-seeking minors in Greece, and studying abroad in both the UK and South Korea. She then headed to the “Woo” to attend medical school at UMass Chan, where her passion for caring for immigrant and refugee communities continued to grow through her work with the Worcester Care Collaborative and RISE for Health. While Kali enjoys all aspects of pediatrics, she is particularly drawn to Adolescent Medicine, where she values building trusting relationships with young people and conversations pertaining to mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and the transition to adulthood. Kali was initially drawn to Brown for the clinical breadth and commitment to serving its surrounding communities, however she has found the people she gets to work with and learn from every day to be the most rewarding part. Outside of medicine, she loves traveling with her husband (a Med-Peds resident at UMass and her former physics tutor), reading historical fiction novels, and exploring new areas of Providence every Wednesday post-academic half day with all of her co-interns.
