Katie Barker grew up in Burlington, Vermont, and attended Bates College in Maine, where she found her communities within the Chemistry Department and the Track and Cross Country teams. Before starting medical school, she worked as a scribe in the ED, tutored, and nannied. She attended medical school back home at the UVM College of Medicine and was able to further invest in the community that raised her. She worked with children with autism at a parent-child center that organized support groups for parents, including New Americans. She gained an interest in developmental pediatrics, working with neonatologists at UVMMC to improve follow-up from the NICU through Quality Improvement. She also has an interest in hospital medicine, nephrology, and cardiology. While she will miss the mountains of Vermont, Katie is excited to develop a deeper appreciation of the ocean in Rhode Island. She enjoys running on dirt, watching Survivor, toast, evening walks on Elmsgrove Ave, and visiting cows. Katie is very excited to become a part of the Brown family, with a supportive and fun crew of awe-inspiring individuals from different backgrounds. She is looking forward to learning more from her patients and becoming involved in the greater Providence community.
